Super Power Pusher helps transform Hitachi’s efficiency by cutting labour intensive activities

Hitachi ABB Power Grids heritage stems back over 100 years, with the aim of creating a sustainable energy future for power supply through digital technologies.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids operate across four production departments in Łódź, Poland: the power transformer plant assembly and disassembly department, aggregates for drawing vacuum and oil impregnation in transformers.

After an operational incident, whereby a technological trolley wheel fell off the rail on a transport system rendering it impossible to move without the use of a forklift truck, Hitachi ABB Power Grids reviewed internal operations and got in touch with Nu-Star with the aim of improving Safety and Efficiency.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids invested in a Super Power Pusher Electric Tug to manoeuvre technological trolleys through the production plant laden with aggregates weighing between 2,000 – 10,000kg each. The steering arm attachment enables precision steering through the production site and as the compact tug has a small-turning circle it can navigate tight spaces in the factory and avoid the many obstacles.

When asked to review the Super Power Pusher, Marcin Witek, Electrical Design Specialist at Hitachi ABB Power Grids said “Moving the fully-loaded technological trolleys used to take three people to complete, with the introduction of the Super Power Pusher this task can be completed with just one pedestrian operator, saving time, resource and effort. In regards to my initial enquiry with one of our trolleys getting stuck in the track transport system, even if this happened now, which is unlikely with the precision steering of the Electric Tug but if it did, the Super Power Pusher would have the power to be able to overcome this issue easily. The Super Power Pusher has been a solid investment and is an invaluable piece of kit for our employees.”
